Not only does a good mud wallow help our girls keep cool in this hot weather, it’s also a fantastic opportunity for social bonding!! Just as in the wild, it seems that mud baths are a herd activity and something our three girls were thoroughly enjoying together. This is just one of the many ways we can use the facilities at Project Elephant to look after their social needs and welfare.
Keepers have been cleaning out the pool this week so decided to redirect the water that came out of the pool to keep the grass paddock watered and provide a mud wallow for the herd. This water originally came from our rainwater harvesting tank and has now gone full circle back into the ground.
Who knew mud could have so many benefits?!
